Focus Testing was a series of levels I created for Valve’s “Portal 2” as part of a level design course at QANTM college. My brief was to take an existing title and create something that still felt true to the original, but brought something new mechanically to the experience.
To meet this brief I utilised many of the existing puzzle “pillars” of Portal 2, but added a new portal wall mechanic - entire surfaces of the level would become portals at the press of a switch.
5 levels were created in 9 weeks, they are designed to be played together and they seamlessly transition like every other level in Portal 2.
Focus Testing was built in Valve’s Hammer editor for Portal 2.
